Promise Housing Plus – a ministry of Church of the Promise and a nonprofit organization serving West Louisville, specializing in home and business repairs, remodels, and renovations. Our mission goes beyond construction—we aim to revitalize properties, create meaningful employment opportunities, and strengthen the fabric of our community. We believe every home and business has potential and revitalized spaces lead to revitalized lives. By turning properties into functional, welcoming spaces, we help individuals and families thrive while improving the neighborhoods we serve. Each project is an opportunity to build more than just structures—we build relationships, hope, and opportunity. We collaborate closely with community members to identify needs, maximize resources, and deliver results that have a lasting impact. Whether it’s repairing a home, remodeling a business, or completely transforming a property, our team combines skilled craftsmanship with a commitment to social and economic empowerment. Promise Housing Plus is more than a construction company – it is a community where we build relationships with other community organizations and our neighbors in West Louisville. At Promise Housing Plus, we believe that By investing in homes, businesses, and communities, we create environments where people can succeed, grow, and feel proud of the places they call home.
Promise Housing Plus was established in 2020 by a dedicated group of family, friends, community members, and church leaders who shared a common goal – to preserve the heritage of the Portland neighborhood, create job opportunities, and provide pathways for homeownership. Rev. Ryan Stoess, Pastor of Church of the Promise, grew up in the Portland neighborhood and built his own home while attending seminary school and raising two young boys. While building his own home, he developed a passion for restoring historic homes in the community. Through hands-on experience, he gained valuable knowledge of home construction and the housing market. Inspired by the principles of economic justice and equity, which are central to the Christian faith, he envisioned a way to share the unconventional path to homeownership with his neighbors. As Ryan was building his home, others at the Church of the Promise felt called to develop a plan that would provide access to homeownership and job opportunities. Today, Promise Housing Plus is a fully licensed contracting company capable of building and renovating a variety of projects.
While we specializes in home renovations and remodels, Promise Housing Plus is more than just building houses—we’re rebuilding lives, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for hope and economic empowerment. Since our start, we’ve witnessed the power of transformation firsthand. In 2020, we completed our first “Mission Home,” which found its new family that same year—a testament to our commitment and the strength of the Portland community. Our mission continued in 2021 when we took on another home from the demolition list. This project brought the community together to find an individual or family in need. By May 2022, we handed over the keys to a new beginning for a family of three. Our work continues to change lives—one job, one home, one family at a time.
